Vacation Nearly At An End

Posted in Article on September 24, 2010 by Radagast

It was a lovely week of rest and relaxation in the Poconos at a cottage we rented from someone we know. The place was much better than I thought it would be — actually, a hell of a lot better. What could beat waking up in the morning and stepping out onto a deck that sits next to a serene lake? This is the kind of vacation I like to take and reminds me of some of my favorite ones from the past when a group of friends and I would rent a house for a couple of weeks on the Jersey shore (Long Beach Island to be exact) and spend our time lounging on a deck that faced the Atlantic Ocean. Sure, there’s a lot to be said about seeing The Louvre, visiting Oxford University or seeing one of the many churches of Italy. But there is something about doing nothing but relaxing that makes for an exceptional vacation.

Now it’s back to the grind of life back home which unfortunately means work on Monday. I don’t mind the work as much as I mind some of my coworkers and the fact that I’m underpaid but, hey, it’s better than nothing. There’s also the next OTK Night at Paddles to plan for as well as the next SSNY party coming up on October 16th. I’ve also got a writing project I’m working on which needs to get going. I thought I might do some writing here during my vacation but why spoil a good time with deadlines. I can do all of my writing at work during the lulls in the day.

That Insecurity Thing Pops Up Again

Posted in Article on September 21, 2010 by Radagast

For all my “I-don’t-give-a-shit” bravado, there are many times when I really do give a shit about things that I probably should not let bother me. This is one of them.

Not A Bad Turnout For The Munch

Posted in Article with tags , , , on September 13, 2010 by Radagast

This past weekends Paddles OTK Night Munch was well-attended and featured a lively group of people telling ribald jokes and generally having a good time. We had enough folks to provide our male guests with the better Paddles discount ($25 rather than $30). The club was also attended by a larger bunch of people than I’ve seen in the recent past and started to somewhat resemble the OTK Nights I remember complete with screaming and barking man — an air of fun and chaos that makes going to the club fun for me. Next month, OTK Night moves back to the first Saturday of October and gets into full swing for the Fall season. The weather will be chillier so I’m sure there will be a good number of people who will want to spend the night indoors warming up bottoms or getting their own bottom warmed (or both).

As always, Paddles is located at 250 W. 26th Street (just east of 8th Avenue) and opens its doors for OTK Night around 7pm. The munch, run by my wife Sandy and me, takes place at the Moonstruck Diner, SW corner of 23rd st. and 9th Avenue starting at 5:30pm.

My Struggle

Posted in Article on September 11, 2010 by Radagast

Whatever you do, do not translate the title into German. Bad thing.

As the years progress, I work towards a place in my life that creates balance — a center. This is true in all walks of life including the scene.

SSNY Sept. Party Cancelled

Posted in Announcement with tags on September 9, 2010 by Radagast

Just received this in my email so I’m posting it here for anyone who might want or need the information.

As some of you might have heard, two of our organizers had a death
in the family.  Our intentions were the best when we decided to
push forward with the September party, however, after further
discussion we’ve decided to cancel it.  It’s simply too soon.

We’re so sorry to those of you that made plans surrounding this
event, and we do hope that you’ll make it to our next one on
October 16th which is only three weeks later than the original
September 25th date.

We’ll do our best to make that one a very special party for all of you.

Again, we’re so sorry for the inconvenience.  I hope you understand.

My condolences to all involved for their loss.

One More Thing About The Shadow Lane Party

Posted in Article with tags on September 9, 2010 by Radagast

I want another one.

I’ll just come out and say that without any pussyfooting around. I thought this party was so good and so well attended that I want another one next year. Maybe that seems cryptic to some out there who might be thinking, “Won’t there be another one next year?” I just want to put my two cents in right now that I am looking forward to booking my trip for 2011 once the announcement is made.

Consider this a pre-intervention based on snippets of rumors that may be nothing but wisps of vapor.

Another Party Review?

Yes.

Although I thought that this year’s Shadow Lane party was quite possibly the best I’d been to due to the relaxed atmosphere of the partiers, I do come away with slight regrets. I went to Vegas to do what I wanted which was to have a good time and not to pressure myself to play with everyone I came in contact with nor to “compete” with any other Tops for any reason. I did my own thing and I’m glad I did because it allowed me to relax and make a real vacation out of the trip. There are times when these parties are so hectic and so crammed with activities that it feels like work. I’ve had parties like that in the past where I’ve played nearly non-stop the entire weekend. I didn’t want to do that this time around and was very happy to have those play sessions with people I enjoyed playing with.
